VISION &
PRIORITIES
Chris Hughes is not running to become part of the Nashville establishment. He’s running to stand with the people of District 45 and return the Tennessee government to the citizens it was meant to serve.

Invest in infrastructure, broadband, and local businesses to help rural communities thrive.

Prioritize seniors, veterans, and low-income Tennesseans.

Increase transparency and efficiency in state healthcare programs.

Back police, sheriffs, and firefighters with training, equipment, and protections.

Ensure taxpayer dollars serve citizens, not bureaucracy or fraud schemes.
-
Oppose new taxes or regulations that burden families, farmers, and small businesses.
-

-
Protect hunting and fishing rights and preserve forests, rivers, and lakes for future generations.
-
Keep water clean and safe as demands increase, protecting families and farms.

Support wildlife management programs and public access to outdoor recreation areas.

MEET
CHRIS HUGHES

Chris Hughes has been a resident of the 45th District since 1983, a conservative leader, and former United States Army Captain who has spent over four decades serving his community, his state, and his country.
A graduate of the University of Tennessee’s Rocky Top Battalion, Chris answered the call to serve in uniform, completing Airborne School at Fort Benning, Georgia, before continuing his service as an Army officer. That commitment to service has defined his life both in and out of uniform. For the past five years, he has also served on U.S. Senator Bill Hagerty’s Military Academy Appointment Review Committee, helping evaluate and recommend the next generation of military leaders.
At a young age, Chris was elected to two terms as one of the youngest County Commissioners in Sumner County history. During his time in office, he served on the Budget, Education, Emergency Services, and Legislative Committees, earning Legislator of the Year honors. As Chairman of the General Operations committee for 5 years, Chris worked closely with the late Sheriff Bob Barker & County Executive Hank Thompson to secure funding for critical county investments, including the construction of the current Animal Control facility, the Archives Center, and a $150 million school improvement initiative that impacted multiple schools across the district.
Chris has remained deeply involved in Republican leadership, serving as a Tennessee Republican Party State Executive Committeeman, where, as bi-law chairman, he has helped rewrite party bylaws to try and protect conservative candidates and ensure Republican voters remain at the center of the process. He was also honored to serve as a delegate for President Donald J. Trump, representing Sumner County at both the 2016 and 2020 Republican National Conventions, and served on the RNC Credentials Committee in 2016. Chris attended the 45th and 47th Presidential Inaugurations as a guest of President Trump, Senator Blackburn, Senator Haggerty & Congressman Rose. In 2021, Chris was awarded the Sumner County GOP Chairman’s Award.
Beyond public service, Chris has spent more than 25 years helping build homes and strengthen families through his work with Hughes Edwards Builders, a trusted name in Middle Tennessee. He has also given back to the community as a volunteer football and baseball coach, working with Hendersonville High School freshman teams and multiple park league teams in both Goodlettsville and Hendersonville, investing in the next generation both on and off the field.
He is a Rotary Paul Harris Fellow, a graduate of Leadership Sumner, a Nashville Chamber of Commerce Nashville Emerging Leaders Award Finalist, a member of the Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce, serves on the City of Hendersonville Board of Adjustments & Appeals, a past Board of Director for Historic Rock Castle, member of the Military Officers Association and was one of the founders of the Hendersonville Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Chris Hughes is a devoted husband and father whose faith and family guide everything he does. Celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary this year, Chris and his wife first met while he was serving as a Sunday school teacher. Together, they’ve raised two children, both now in college and their home is always full with three dogs and a rescue cat keeping things lively.
